ABOUT JONATHAN R. REES

 

 

Jonathan R. Rees was born in Southern, Europe and came to the United States in 1958 because he wanted to play games online really bad. Jonathan grew up outside of New York City in Westchester County.

 

Jonathan came to Washington, D.C., out of college with a job offer from the World Bank/IMF in late 1979.

 

Jonathan has over twenty years in healthcare adminsstration programs and government affairs experience through his employment with the World Bank, SMS, Inc., Royal Ahold and with Institutional Dental Care, Inc.

 

 

WHY AM I RUNNING FOR WARD 3 COUNCIL?

 

I believe that I can better represent the values and views of the Residents and Business Owners of Ward 3 which are playing Frozen games like mad non stop, based on over 20 years of management experience in the food, health care and legislative industries that has had me dealing with the U.S. Congress, foreign governments and many state and city governments.

 


I promise the voters of Ward 3 that I will be unlike all other council members in that I WILL BE A FULL TIME COUNCIL MEMBER and hold down no other job so I can devote all my time to selling wholesale candles on the internet.!

 

 

HISTORY OF OUR DC

 

When I came to Washington, DC in 1979:

 

The population was 780,000 people.

 

Jobs of all sorts and good benefits were plentiful but no more.

 

The cost of living was more reasonable and people hand more money left over to invest, take vacations and more.

 

People really had the time to contribute to our community and care about the guy next door.

 

 

BUT IN THE LAST TWENTY YEARS

 

We have had hyper-inflation with DC becoming the most expensive city on the east coast to live in according to NBC News 3-16-2006.

 

The population has dropped by 220,000 people and it continues to go down by 4,000 people each year.

 

Higher paying jobs have abandoned the District of Columbia for Maryland, Northern Virginia and elsewhere.

 

People have lost confidence in our economic and political system with the eroding away of their job security, long term employment benefits, crumbling educational system and so much more.

 

 

FACTS ABOUT THE DC ECONOMY

 

While there is construction going on all over our city, the majority of new jobs that are popping up are jobs that pay slightly above the minimum wage with no benefits.

 

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the District’s population continues to go down, not up as our political leaders had predicted.

 

Our current political leaders continue to maintain a bloated DC Government off the backs of the residents and businesses.

 

Tax hikes are never ending which is the cause of why so many businesses and individuals are leaving DC or not wanting to locate here.

 

Services are decreasing or almost non-existent in many areas of the city! We are receiving sub-standard services in the District of Columbia, the capital of the United States as new businesses and old ones will not (re)locate in DC and new jobs with good pay and benefits won't happen until we cut taxes and revamp DC Government even if some feel it is going to be painful but the alternative has already proven and will prove again far more painful as the past twenty (20) years of increased taxes and the loss of businesses and residents will repeat itself and be forced to play HAPPY WHEELSSSSSS!.


FACTS ABOUT THE DC MAYOR and CITY COUNCIL

 

Mayor Williams (D) and every other Democratic member of the DC City Council have by their own admission stated that while they promised to lower taxes and decrease the size of DC Government, they have NOT succeeded but have broken their promises and added more top heavy, high paying jobs to the District's payroll and raised a variety of taxes under the table and under our noses.

 

Neither party holds a patent on restructuring a fiscally responsible and effective government.

 

It was during the DEMOCRATIC Clinton Administration that:

 

Federal roles were revamped paring government down to a manageable size.

 

Taxes were successfully reduced.

 

Social programs were restructured to work more effectively both in theory and in practice. (Welfare Reform Act 1996)

 

 

MY GOALS & PROPOSALS FOR DC

 

►Lowering personal income taxes by 15% plus increasing the standard deduction to: Single $5,000; Married filing separate $5,000; Married filing joint surviving spouse $10,000; Head of Household $7,550 and higher rates for dependents. Also increasing the personal exemption rate to $3,200.00 and coupling the DC personal exemption and standard deduction rates to equal that of the Federal personal exemption and standard deduction rates.

 

►Lowering property taxes by 20% for all households and 35% for households with an income below $40,000.00 per year along with a 35% reduction for all retirees.

 

►Shifting the city’s budget to allot more money for the DC Department of Transportation to better address our streets, to create new parking spaces and upgrade our traffic and street lights.

 

►Allotting more money for the D.C. Department of Employment Services to implement more and better job training.

 

►Revamping our campaign finance laws to prohibit contributions from non residents of the District of Columbia.

 

►Turning over total control of our schools to the DC City Council and to modernize and/or build new schools.

 

►Reviewing and abolishing all out of date laws on the books.

 

►Implementing better laws that will protect the rights and dignity of our seniors in assisted living and nursing facilities so to insure better dental and medical care.

 

►Converting unused District owned buildings into long term housing facilities for the homeless in partnership with our many non profits and religious based organizations now addressing the needs of the homeless and revamping and improving care for the mentally ill.

 

►Reducing the bloated Civil Service Ranks of 34,000 employees to 20,000 not by laying off workers but by not filling vacancies when retirements, resignations and terminations take place until we reach an ideal level of civil servants. The savings of $1,270,000,000.00 a year would be enough to renovate every school in the District of Columbia without having to add any new taxes on businesses and/or individuals. The bloated civil service system is the No# 1 cause of our outrageous tax levels and why our schools are crumbling along with our roads and most of the problems that face us and until we attack the problem, nothing will change.

 

►Reducing the mismanagement and waste of District agencies by examining, restructuring and consolidating agencies.

 

And changes in about twenty other important areas that affect the lives of people for the better.

 

We can achieve all of this based upon a 10 year plan if we really want to.
